The Guangzhou branch of the Chinese research center of the World Skills Competition was established in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Daily reported on Feb 27.

The center is the first research center for the World Skills Competition in the city and is expected to boost the cultivation of technical talents.

The research center will carry out research in areas spanning election training, outcomes transfer, as well as the promotion and application of standards in the World Skills Competition.

Three other research centers in China, respectively located in Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing, were also established. The four research centers in China will team up in providing theoretical and technical support for China's participation in the World Skills Competition.

During the 45th World Skills Competition that was held in Kazan, Russia, 12 Guangzhou competitors won four gold medals and seven prizes, making huge breakthroughs for the city.

Currently, Guangzhou has been a pioneer in the cultivation of technical talents in China, as it is home to 2.62 million technical talents, of which 82 of them are highly skilled. The city boasts 27 vocational schools, forming a modern vocational education system.
